**ALGEBRA I (P)**

Year (9); Prerequisite: Placement Exam analysis

One year - Required

Algebra I is the study of the axioms and theorems of the real number system. Topics covered in this course include properties of equations, inequalities, graphing, functions, operations with polynomials, quadratics, rational and radical expressions. Students will learn to model real world situations through the use of word problems, thus facilitating the development of the students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills. In addition to providing students with a complete study of the first year of Algebra concepts, this course will prepare students for their future mathematics courses.

**GEOMETRY (P)**

Year (9,10,11,12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C- in 2nd semester Algebra I

One year - Required

Meets UC and CSU a-g criteria (c)

This is a one-year course in Euclidean geometry. The course includes an analysis of plane, solid, and coordinate geometry as they relate to abstract mathematical concepts as well as real world problem situations. Students will be introduced to inductive and deductive reasoning, including two-column proofs. Emphasis will be placed on developing critical thinking skills. Areas of study include logic and proof, parallel lines, polygons, circles, perimeter and area, volume and surface area, similarity and congruence, transformations, constructions, and an introduction to trigonometry.

**ALGEBRA II (P)**

Year (10,11,12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C- in 2nd semester Algebra I

One year - Elective; Required for class of 2022 and subsequent students who did not take Math Lab

This is the study of intermediate topics in Algebra, which incorporates a review of Algebra I, and includes equations of multiple variables, properties of polynomials and rational expressions, and their graphs and applications. The course will cover the study of functions, complex numbers, conics, exponential and logarithmic functions, and probability. The use of word problems will be incorporated to enhance the student’s problem solving skills in order to facilitate the student’s ability to handle a level of complexity beyond that of beginning Algebra.

**HONORS ALGEBRA II (P)**

Year (10,11,12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of B+ in 2nd semester Algebra I or instructor approval

One year - Alternate to Algebra II (P)

This is a study of intermediate topics in Algebra, which incorporates a review of important topics from Algebra I. The course includes the study of all the topics mentioned in regular Algebra II; however, the Honors course explores topics in more depth and examines more challenging aspects of the Algebra curriculum. Analysis and critical thinking will be stressed, to facilitate the student’s ability to handle a level of complexity beyond that of beginning Algebra. Success in this course will prepare the student for the study of advanced mathematical topics.

**PRECALCULUS (P)**

Year (11,12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of B- in 2nd semester Regular Algebra II or C in 2nd Semester Honors

Algebra II

One year - Elective

The student will study functions as a preparation for calculus. The topics covered will include trigonometric, rational, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions. The course studies graphing each of these functions and integrates the use of graphing calculators. Other topics will include, but not be limited to, analytic geometry, limits, and matrices. A graphing Calculator is required for this class. TI 83 or 84 is recommended.

**HONORS PRECALCULUS (P)**

Year (11,12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of A in 2nd semester Algebra II or minimum grade of B in 2nd semester

Honors Algebra II

One year - Elective Meets UC and CSU a-g criteria (c)

This is a one-year course that combines all of the precalculus concepts and skills that must be mastered prior to enrollment in a college-level calculus course. This includes an intensive study of trigonometric, circular, rational, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions and their graphs. Other topics include vectors, analytic geometry, limits, probability, and an introduction to linear algebra. A graphing calculator is required for this class. TI 83 or 84 is recommended.

**ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS AB (P)**

Year (11,12); Prerequisite: Instructor Approval & minimum grade of B- in Honors Precalculus

One year - Elective

All students enrolled in AP classes without an equal college prep version available are strongly encourage to take the AP exam. After opting in, parents will be charged the $94 exam fee on the 1st of November or they must communicate the need for a partial waiver fee prior to that date. This is a full-year course in differential and integral calculus that is equivalent to one semester of college calculus. Emphasis is placed on developing the concepts of calculus, and applying these concepts to the analysis of problems. Students study calculus from four perspectives: algebraic, graphical, numerical, and verbal. The course is designed to prepare the students for the Advanced Placement Calculus AB exam in May. A graphing calculator is required. TI 83 or 84 is recommended.

**ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS BC (P)**

Year (11, 12); Prerequisite: Completion of AP Calculus AB and instructor approval

One year – Elective

Meets UC and CSU a-g criteria (c)

All students enrolled in AP classes without an equal college prep version available are strongly encourage to take the AP exam. After opting in, parents will be charged the $94 exam fee on the 1st of November or they must communicate the need for a partial waiver fee prior to that date. This is a second full-year course in differential and integral calculus that is equivalent to an additional college calculus course. The course provides a deeper understanding of the topics covered in Calculus AB, and adds the following new topics: additional applications of integration; additional types of differential equations; Euler’s method; parametric, polar, and vector functions; sequences, series, and polynomial approximations. Students study calculus from four perspectives: algebraic, graphical, numerical, and verbal. The course will prepare students to take the Advanced Placement Calculus BC exam in May, as well as prepare them for courses in higher levels of mathematics. A graphing calculator is required. TI 83 or 84 is recommended.

**STATISTICS (P)**

Year (11, 12); Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in Geometry and C in Algebra II.

One year – Elective

Meets UC and CSU a-g criteria (g)

This is a one-year course in elementary statistics, designed to prepare students for a first-year college statistics course. Topics include data collection, categorical and quantitative data, appropriate graphing skills, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, experimental design, probability, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals. There is a heavy emphasis on real world examples and the ability to think critically. A graphing calculator with statistics functions, either a Texas Instruments model TI-83, or TI-84 series, is required for this class. Students will have access to an online statistical software package.

**MATH LAB**

Year (9, 10,) - Elective

Prerequisite: Placement Exam analysis Math Lab is a course which is taken concurrently with another math class allowing students to receive extra instruction and support for their development in their math course. Enrollment in this course is based upon student’s previous math grade and teacher recommendation.
